Is a common condition characterized by accumulation of lipids within the hepatocytes. Histologically microvesicular and Macrovesiuclar have been described. Microvesicular presnts acutely (as in pregnancy, Reyes’s syndrome, toxin effect, drug toxicity as with Amiadarone, or valproic acid, or fulminant hepatitis D) and carries a serious prognosis. Macrovesicular is common and the majority give history of alcohol abuse. It could occur also in obesity, diabetes and kwasiorkar. It used to be considered a benign condition, but now the consensus is that fatty liver is part of continuum and leads to fibrosis and cirrhosis in course of time. Assess liver enzyme levels.
Treatment
Microvesicular acute fatty liver needs appropriate therapy in a hospital. Macrovesicular fatty liver is to be closely monitored biochemically and sonologically, and hepato supportive therapy may beneeded. Absolute abstinence from alcohol must be insisted on
